University of California Offers Free Addiction Conference Webinars | Local News

The University of California, Pennsylvania will be presenting free webinars as part of the “Addictions Conference 2021-2022: Intervention, Treatment, and Recovery Across the Lifespan” throughout February.

The webinars are hosted by Cal U.’s Social Work and Counselor Education Programs and are part of a three-year, $1.3 million Workforce Expansion Program grant. opioid health resource and service administration.

Registration is mandatory. Continuing education credits are available.

The dates and topics of the sessions are:

not Methamphetamine use in PA: separating facts and myths, Feb. 15, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Participants will learn how to recognize methamphetamine use in the populations they serve and how to implement evidence-based treatment interventions.

not Attune, Affirm, Advocate: Helping LGBTQ people diagnosed with substance use disorders, February 18, noon to 1 p.m.

This session will discuss the use of LGBTQ affirmation skills and techniques to provide treatment for LGBTQ people diagnosed with substance use disorders.

Participants will learn how to adapt to LGBTQ-specific concerns and knowledge, practice affirmation of care effectively, and advocate for LGBTQ clients within their profession and community.

The number of older adults with substance use disorders is increasing. This session will teach participants about the systems impacting older adults, common screening tools, treatment options, and medications commonly used in this population.
