Education and skills
Hyndburn-based technology company Sundown Solutions, a Microsoft Gold Partner, is partnering with IN4 group Operation Skills City to grow its Microsoft Azure certified data analytics bootcamp, bridge the gap between education and real-world experience, and support people in technology careers.
As a recognized expert in helping businesses find large-scale digital solutions to technical problems and as an employer seeking local talent, Sundown Solutions enables data analysis bootcamp to match its training program with the necessary skills that are required in the workplace.
Led by Blackburn entrepreneur Mo Isap, Skills City has secured government funding to run Digital Skills Bootcamps from bases in Preston, Lancashire, and Media City in Salford. The programs are designed to be accessible to people from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds and directly support them in tech careers with local companies, such as Sundown Solutions. Currently, 43% of participants are women, with a target of 50% to promote gender parity in the sector.
According to a Microsoft survey, more than two-thirds (69%) of UK business leaders believe their organization currently faces a digital skills gap. Many fear that the lack of digital skills in their organization is impacting success. WorldSkills UK found that 60% of companies believe their use of advanced digital skills will increase over the next five years, while 88% of young people realize their digital skills will be essential for their careers.
Sundown Solutions CEO Heath Groves said, “Digital skills requirements are increasingly in demand and will continue to be highly sought after by employers as businesses evolve to meet future needs. We’re a technology company and we put people through intensive training ourselves, and we’re happy to work with Skills City bootcamps to provide much-needed skills training upgrade opportunities in the region. If you can match the training offered, with the needs of employers and the right mindset and attitude of the learner, we will have a strong pipeline of employable people for many years to come.
66 interns will graduate from the first Bootcamps in just twelve weeks, and we will immediately have vacancies for 10 of them. The rest will be primed and ready to start a successful career bringing up-to-date digital skills to any employer.”
Mo Isap, CEO of IN4 Group, said, “We are delighted to be working with a local tech employer like Sundown Solutions, which offers exciting entry-level opportunities so people can jump-start their digital careers. With their remarkable Microsoft and this unique employer-led approach, we are proud to help them hire highly skilled talent through our apprenticeships at Skills City and further increase equitable access to technology careers in the region. »
