Second Cohort of UNDP JAZZ SDG Bootcamps Concludes – Winning Startups Focus on Education, Health, Climate Change and Digital Transformation

UNDP Pakistan and Jazz conclude the second cohort of SDG Bootcamps on the themes of education, health, climate change and digital transformation. Implemented by the School of Leadership Foundation (SoLF), in the second cohort, 131 social enterprises participated, including 42 women-led initiatives. Four social enterprises emerged victorious.

Winning social enterprises included – Sindh’s Bechlo.pk, a multi-vendor app store created for and by women to sell new and pre-loved products online; Sindh’s Perwaz, a healthcare company that provides drone services to deliver medical aid; Sindh’s Crop Care, a mobile app that helps farmers detect crop diseases and recommends solutions; and Edibles from Punjab, which strives to reduce single-use plastic cutlery by introducing sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives.

This second round of bootcamps also included a regional bootcamp in Islamabad with a total of 25 social enterprises, including participants from Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Malook Enterprise won the regional bootcamp. This social enterprise creates income opportunities for communities in Gilgit Baltistan by harvesting and selling local organic products, such as herbs, dried fruits, vegetables, etc.

UNDP Resident Representative in Pakistan, Mr. Knut Ostby, said at the conclusion of the second cohort, “It is truly inspiring to see young people, especially young women, opting for social entrepreneurship as a career option. viable career. UNDP-Jazz SDG Bootcamps help aspiring entrepreneurs navigate and develop business models. Improving the social entrepreneurship ecosystem in Pakistan will not only empower the country’s youth, but will also contribute to the achievement of Pakistan’s SDG targets.

The winner of the national bootcamp will have the opportunity to join Youth Co:Lab, the largest social entrepreneurship movement for young people in Asia and the Pacific co-created by UNDP and the Citi Foundation, as well as access to Jazz mentorship opportunities.

Jazz and UNDP Pakistan spear the SDG Bootcamp in December 2020 to promote social entrepreneurship and strengthen the start-up ecosystem in Pakistan. As part of this, 20 bootcamps will be organized across the county to train 800 young social entrepreneurs, 50% of whom will be women, by December 2022.
