The Montgomery County Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Advisory Council (AODAC) is sponsoring a three-part webinar series addressing the basics of addiction and recovery pathways.
The first webinar, “What is drug addiction?” will be held February 19, from noon to 1:00 p.m. Keynote speakers will be Sara Rose, Operations Manager for DHHS Local Behavioral Health Authority & Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, and Joey Zabel, Chairman of the Board of Arise and Flourish.
The second webinar, “What is Recovery?” : Paths to Recovery”, will be held on March 26, from noon to 1 p.m. LaTonia Rich, executive director of Tree of Hope, and Anne Ellis and Elizabeth Leek, members of the public relations committee for 12-Step Fellowship, will speak.
The final webinar, “AODAC and Provider Panel Q&A,” will take place on April 2, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The panel will consist of voting AODAAC members, Youth Ambassador Program representatives, and providers of local treatment. Participants are encouraged to save their questions for the final webinar.
AODAAC hopes the webinars will provide a pathway to recovery and disrupt the cycle of addiction for those who struggle with it, and educate others.
“The hardest part of recovery can be taking that first step on the journey,” said Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Director Dr. Raymond Crowel. “Sometimes trying to understand all of the services available to help with addiction can be overwhelming and get in the way of getting recovery started.”
The webinar series is free and open to the public. Advance registration is required, which residents can access online.
“We hope this webinar series can help simplify the process, clarify the robust landscape of resources available in Montgomery County, and ultimately save lives,” Crowel said.
