The Indiana County League of Women Voters hosted a July 20 webinar on current gun laws in Pennsylvania. Organized by the Child Advocacy Committee on Education, the webinar focused on a presentation by Private First Class Clifford Greenfield, who is the Public Information Officer and Community Services Officer for A Troop, covering the Indiana and Ebensburg.
After a brief welcome by Anne Simmons, President of the LWVIC, Susan Welch, Chair of the Child Advocacy Committee, provided a detailed introduction to Greenfield, highlighting her extensive training. Throughout most of the webinar, Greenfield provided detailed information from Title 18 of the Pennsylvania Penal Code as it pertains to gun laws.
His topics included definitions of firearms and illegal firearms, who is prohibited from owning a firearm, and a detailed description of Pennsylvania’s instant control system. This also covered important and current details from the Pennsylvania State Troopers 2021 Firearms report.
Greenfield also touched on the subject of firearm sale or transfer records, which are kept, and distinguishing them from an ownership record, which is not currently kept in Pennsylvania. He finished with a description of where firearms are generally prohibited and concealed carry laws in the Commonwealth. The webinar ended with a Q&A session.
The league will follow up on this webinar with a second related online presentation.
The Child Advocacy Committee will present information at 7 p.m. Wednesday via Zoom on public safety measures to protect people from gun violence, the current state of gun safety law in Pennsylvania, and resources available to interested citizens.
