Extension of Oklahoma State University The Thursday Noon Ranch webinar series in November will focus on ways cow-calf producers can provide the nutrition growing calves need without relying on wheat pastures.
“This is a particularly important and timely topic given the general conditions of wheat pastures in Oklahoma and the high costs of feed,” said Paul Beck, beef cattle specialist OSU Extension. “We use Zoom to host the webinars, so it’s easy to participate, grab the latest research-based information, and interact with experts and producers. ”
The weekly series is free to the public, but registration is required for each event. Questions and comments are encouraged. All November webinars will start at noon central time and end around 1:00 p.m.
Zoom webinar topics will include:
- November 4 – Dry wintering calves and prolonged lack of wheat pasture with hay and silage.
- November 11 – Feeding programs with long stalk hay and supplements, and OSU standard feeding programs with total mixed rations with high roughage content.
- November 18 – Use of a scheduled feed of high concentrate total mixed rations.
The webinars will be moderated by experts from OSU and Kansas State University. A panel of producers will also be presented as part of the November 4 event.
