Free turkey hunting webinars offered in February

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission will be offering three free turkey hunting webinars in February. Topics will include biology, species habits, habitats, scouting, essential equipment, setup, effective shot placement, decoy placement and hunting strategies. Each hour-long lesson will end with an interactive question-and-answer session.

The webinars were created with the new hunter in mind. Turkey hunting may be more accessible than other big game hunts, but has its challenges. Instructors will provide a comprehensive overview of how to prepare for the hunt, what to expect, and how to execute a successful harvest and enjoy time in the wild even when unsuccessful. This is a great opportunity for novice hunters to learn how to get started.

“The webinars are specifically for those who have never hunted and don’t have access to a hunting mentor, although they are open to all skill levels,” said R3 hunting specialist Walter “Deet” James of the Wildlife Commission. “The Multi-Skill Turkey Hunting Webinar Series will run over three consecutive evenings. Anyone interested in participating in all skill sets must register separately for each class.

2022 Turkey Hunting Webinar Schedule:

February 8, Biology for Hunters, Rules, Where to Hunt and Scouting, 7 to 8 p.m.

February 9, Firearms, ammunition, miscellaneous clothing and equipment, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

February 10, Hunting techniques and strategies, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Places are limited and online pre-registration is required. Classes will take place via Zoom. Participants will receive their Zoom link after registration via a confirmation email. The course will be recorded and made available to registered participants at a later date.

The webinars take place prior to the opening wild turkey seasons for male or bearded turkeys, April 2-8 for youth under 18, and April 9-May 7 statewide.

Turkey hunting rules and regulations are available in the 2021 – 2022 North Carolina Regulations Digest. For more information on Turkey Seminars and other skill-based seminars, visit ncwildlife.org/sbs or contact James at [email protected] or 984-202-1387.
