Bix 6-a-side workouts start Thursday

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) — The Quad-City Times Bix 7 race is just over a month away and Bix 6 workouts begin Thursday.

For the first time this year, the Bix will host auditions for the national anthem, due to the retirement of previous singer Jack Kerry after 30 years.

“So we are opening auditions for all individual or group a capella singers, try both this Thursday and next Thursday. And then the other thing we have going on that starts at 7 a.m. is practice for the Brady Street sprints,” Michelle Juehring, Quad-City Race Director told Times Bix 7.

Juehring says the practice route begins at 4th St. and Leclaire St., runners will go west on 4th St., turn right on Pershing and continue to Kirkwood Blvd.

She goes on to say that runners need to make sure they’re hydrated for hot weather training this week.

This year marks the 48th edition of the Bix. Thursday’s race will be a 2 mile run or walk.

Upcoming practice runs feature a 1-2 mile run or walk variation.

Those who sign up for Bix Thursday can get an Iowa American Water t-shirt for free.

Event organizers say the Bix at 6 is a 7-mile race, which will have Davenport Police and water stations along the course.
